Hi horny readers! This year, I took the holidays off, so I never got around to sending a “Best of 2024” post. This week, I’ve curated some of my favorite posts that may help us face the year ahead.
My friends in L.A. are still facing down the horror of losing their homes. I’m re-posting the links I’ve already shared below.
Thank you so, so much for reading the ADULT SEX ED newsletter! If you’re enjoying it, please share with friends, so they can be hilariously informed.
Adult Sex Ed comedically challenges why we think what we think about sex. In case you’re new, I’m Dani Faith Leonard, a comedy writer, film producer, and performer. In 2018, I started a comedy show called Adult Sex Ed and launched this newsletter last year. Each week, I take a fun deep dive into a topic that I’ve been researching. Want to know more? This week, I’ve been thinking a lot about preparing for the year ahead. It feels very much like we’re welcoming a different era—the new (old) regime coming in next week, the apocalyptic images of Los Angeles neighborhoods, a lot of uncertainty. I looked at my posts from 2024 for any guidance and as it turns out, there was a trend.
Many of my posts focused on misinformation, which will no doubt be something that we’re battling for years to come. Here are some funny, but informative posts about how misinformation about sex has spread throughout history to help guide us:
The Mythical History of Chastity Belts will have you questioning if they ever existed at all. A game called Is This Real? will help you learn about some of history’s greatest frauds.
If you want to understand RFK Jr., it’s helpful to read The Problematic Guru, a profile about John Harvey Kellogg, cornflakes, and colon cleansing. You also might want to read about The Great Testicle Theft, which is about a strange series of events that happened a century ago when doctors convinced men that they needed a second set of balls.
It was an election year, so naturally, there were a bunch of political posts. If you need to watch the inauguration with people who think differently than you, you might want to read Do Terrible Opinions Make You Horny? It’s about a little-known fetish. If you want to doomscroll or explain to others why some of us are afraid of the incoming administration’s thoughts on sex, gender, and general freedoms, you can read What is Porn? And What Isn’t. I also wrote a rant right after the election called No, you don't need 'No Nut November' this year.
If you’re looking for a lighter topic that is continuously popping up in the news (and at BYU games), try The One About Soaking.
Finally, my favorite post of the year, The Orgasm: A Celebration.
Here’s to a much better year ahead!
Finally, I’m re-sharing my newsletter from earlier this week that outlines resources for wildfire victims:
Natural disasters, periods, and how to help
Hey readers! Jumping in on a Monday to talk about an issue that affects victims of natural disasters and ways you can help. Regular newsletter coming this Wednesday, as usual:)
Of course, there’s so much more that people need. So many people think L.A. is a town of celebrities, but these fires wiped out diverse neighborhoods of people who work really hard in all industries. I personally know people who have lost everything, most of them young families who only recently purchased their first homes. Of course, the animals need help too! There are many reputable organizations (and local mutual aid) that are seeking donations, so please make one that’s meaningful for you.
