Hi Everyone,
Happy hump day and thanks so much for reading the ADULT SEX ED newsletter! This is a holiday week in the United States (Happy 4th if you celebrate!) and I chose not to write a full post. There are a bunch of new subscribers from all over the world, so I figured this would be a great opportunity to reintroduce myself!
This is a weekly newsletter from me, Dani Faith Leonard, a comedy writer, producer, and performer (you can follow me on instagram). It’s an extension of the live comedy show ADULT SEX ED that I’ve hosted since 2018. The show and this newsletter is about plugging the holes in our education as adults (if you want to know more, here’s a description on substack).
I start off every live show by explaining that I am not a sex expert - just a huge fan. So why did I start a comedy show and newsletter about sex ed? I grew up in a really open home with no shame around sex. My mom was even a sex ed teacher for a while. But I personally experienced the other kind of sex ed in school. In high school, we watched Philadelphia to learn that if you have sex, you will get AIDS, and if you get skinny in Hollywood, you’ll win prizes.
Even if you had comprehensive sex ed, we still learn about sex from our cultures, religions, friends, family, movies, tv, and of course, personal experience. By the time we’re adults, we’re walking around with lots of deeply ingrained opinions. I think it’s up to us to plug the holes in our own education!
More about me:
I spend most of my time in New York and Los Angeles. When in NY, I’m mostly known as “Aunt Dani.”
I ran a film and media production company and incubator called Big Vision Empty Wallet from 2010-2021. I’m still working on films! Now, I’m more focused on producing my own work.
I talk about many topics other than sex in my comedy and screenwriting. If my work has a through line, it’s that I like to use comedy to illuminate something about our society. I almost always end up researching topics that no one thinks to study. So I guess “plugging the holes” is just kind of my thing.
When I hit send on this newsletter, I’m going for a hike to work off the 4th of July fun I had with friends:)
Please help me choose future topics by answering the survey questions below (it will be available for a week). Look out for new live show dates coming soon! And if you have any suggestions, please leave a comment below or feel free to respond to this email.

I've been a sex educator and greatly appreciate the fresh approach and humor you bring to the task. Generally, it does seem like your voice is geared toward adults (say, 30+) rather than teens or younger folks. The sometimes wicked irony might be lost on them. But no complaints. It's great and much needed.
