This is the ADULT SEX ED Newsletter!
This is a weekly newsletter from me, Dani Faith Leonard. It’s an extension of the live comedy show ADULT SEX ED that I’ve hosted since 2018. Each week I will take a deep dive into a topic that I’ve explored for the show. We might examine the impact of celebrity sex tapes or famous sex scenes; revisit key moments in American history or take a tour of horny U.S. Presidents; learn that Ancient Judaism recognized eight genders; or take a slippery deep dive through the history of lube. Most importantly, I’ll explain why it mattered to me in the first place and how each topic helps dismantle something I learned wrong.
Every so often, I’ll also publish a funny essay about something going on in my life. I’ll also include updates about upcoming live shows and podcasts, plus I’ll send recommendations about things my friends are doing.
In case you’re wondering, ADULT SEX ED isn’t only about our childhoods. And although it’s important to be informed, my main focus isn’t what’s going on in schools now (it’s bleak - only 17 states require sex ed to be medically accurate). Even if you had comprehensive sex ed, we all learn from our peers, families, cultures, religions, history, movies, and media. For me, focusing on what we learned wrong is important, so that we can dismantle those beliefs as adults. The live show (and now the newsletter) dives into incorrect info passed down for generations, the stories we heard as kids, the ones we told each other as teens, and the ones we still hold onto. That’s what makes it enlightening and hilarious.
